MENTORING THE B.R.I.D.G.E.E. STEP TEAM

One of the most protected efforts of the B.R.I.D.G.E.E. organization is the recruitment of students to carry on the tradition and practices for B.R.I.D.G.E.E. Step Team. The goal of our alumni members is to help our African-American male students about the history of Greek Letter fraternities and sorority organizations. Our scholars and graduate students return frequently to provide the younger students with knowledge, community service, leadership opportunities in honor of the historic performances and previous contributions from earlier step team generations.

THE STORY BEHIND THE LEGACY

On January 31, 2008, the B.R.I.D.G.E.E. mentoring program expanded their outreach and accountability for students pursuing their academic endeavors beyond high school. On this date, Dr. Eugenia Roberts and two prominent members of the organization, James “Silk” Wilkins IV and Charles Green, created and shared the concept of the step team with Mr. Roland Holmes, who ultimately became the step-team’s co-founder, performance instructor, and mentor. Thus, the effort to execute the vision took place and the legendary B.R.I.D.G.E.E. Step Team was born.

KAPTIV’8ED UNDER KONSTRUXION

The latest generation to receive mentoring and support from the alumni members of the B.R.I.D.G.E.E.E. Step Team is the line currently known as “Kaptiv’8ed,” This line which recently graduated two of its members has succeeded in recruiting six more intelligent, young men this year in 2017, who will benefit from the leadership of former team members and returning graduates. As we guide these men into their roles as step-team members, we will build them to become leaders in their own right, who have also earned the prestige of wearing the Step Team’s banner.

’08 Da’ Prototype

In 2008, the B.R.I.D.G.E.E. step team was established with inspiration from the “Divine Nine” Greek fraternities and sororities. The group was first formed by Dr. Eugenia Roberts, and two members of the B.R.I.D.G.E.E. organization, Bro. James “Silk” Wilkins III, and Bro. Charles Green. The gentlemen contacted Roland Holmes, who would become both a champion mentor and instructor for the participating members. The legendary line, which featured 12 prominent members, was named “Da Prototype.” This line would go on to solidify the foundation of the B.R.I.D.G.E.E. Step Team and set the tone for future lines to follow as an example.

’13 Rekonstruxion

In 2013, B.R.I.D.G.E.E. revived the legacy of the step team with their second generation line featuring six strong members. The line became best known as “Rekonstruxion.” This line found success with their performance at Lincoln University, accompanied and mentored by members of “Da Prototype.” The team was well-balanced with brothers who focused heavily on their ability to perform and execute their steps with precision.

’14 Trilogy

Trilogy, the 3rd generation B.R.I.D.G.E.E. step team was inspired by returning members of the “Rekonstruxion” step team who sought to recruit dedicated prospective members who would offer long-term commitment to learning the history of previously established lines while also executing in the classroom. This line was best known for solidifying B.R.I.D.G.E.E. as a first-place, three-peat organization at the Kennett Step Show. The group was also known for stepping in dress attire with a shirt, tie, and dress shoes to demonstrate their prominence and dedication to their academic endeavors.

’15 Exodus

Exodus, the 4th generation B.R.I.D.G.E.E. Step Team carried on the legacy past the leadership and mentoring support of previous lines to operate almost independently. This generation was special for their ability to teach each other steps from the 9 Greek-letter organizations and replicate them precisely with long hours in practice. The dedication of this line was uniquely recognized as they also won a trophy at the Kennett Step Show, even after they pushed themselves to perform in as many shows as the previous lines to come before it. The inspiration from this line would spark the interests of the next two generations of the step team, which would ultimately carry-on the legacy.
